The Backdrop.
A heart that sees, hears & obeys. These are the things that You brought out to me as I tried to make sense out of the ‘details’ of Christian living…particularly the one about denying myself.
In the same way that You were able to sum up the whole law into one or two commands (to love), the importance of the position of the heart to see, hear & obey was revealed as the backdrop to self-denial, or for any of the Christian traits.
Your word is packed with these types of power-nuggets of how our walk should manifest itself – but, yet, they are nothing when separated from a heart being in the right place.
Choices.
I like that self-denial doesn’t have to be at the top of my to-do list, but that doesn’t mean that seeing, hearing & obeying are an easy road themselves.
Seeing requires seeking, hearing requires listening and obeying requires moving. All signs of actively living.
I was passively living for so long that my soul was lifeless. The fragrance of a well-watered garden was no where to be found. But because it is Your character to seek, listen, and move, You set in motion the the revival of a lifeless soul, modeling the path for me that heals and resurrects life.
Revived – from desert to garden. Living.
